    Freeman sidelined with broken wrist

Well....crap. Freddie Freeman is out until July or August with a broken wrist.

    @Ken Rosenthal
Source: #Braves’ Freeman has a fractured left wrist. Expectation is that he will miss at least eight weeks.
Braves’ Freeman, as you might expect, has his wrist in a cast.
Source adds: #Braves’ Freeman will not undergo surgery.
Really too bad - Freddie was having a terrific season.

      Fireworks tonight

Braves hit 7 times in 3 games
Freeman out after HBP with broken wrist
Bautista and Pillar acting like complete inflamed anuses last night

Someone is going to be paying the Blue Jays tab tonight. Not saying it belongs in baseball nor do I condone it, but it makes for great watching.

You know what else makes for great watching..the predators ducks game tonight...tomorrow the pens will look for some reconciliation after a crushing defeat at the hands of the senators yesterday...I got a feeling Malkin will have something for them..Man I love Hockey!

Freddie is going to be missed for certain. Poor guy - he can't catch a break.

Gout, you do realize hockey failed three time here??? The Flames are now in Calgary, The Knights moved on and then the Thrashers did the same. This is a Baseball and College Football town and gets to be an NFL town when the Falcons are doing well. Hockey is cool no doubt, but the market just is not here in Atlanta. I prefer the Olympic hockey games and format myself.
On another note, good job on Nick Markakis stepping into no. 3 in the lineup and making some critical hits for RBI with 2 outs. While Freddie may be the MVP style player, Markakis has impressed every year with his consistency since he's been here.

I miss hockey. Played collegiate hockey in the North and would love to get back on skates, but I realize the reality of the South being a little warm.

I think Tom Glavine drove the final nail in the coffin when he got involved. At least we still have the gwinnett gladiators.

Well the fact that we are talking about hockey in the 2017 Atlanta Braves thread is a pretty solid indicator of how bad baseball is in Atlanta again.

Gout, you know that Tom Glavine is a part of the group including Derek Jeter that is attempting to buy the Marlins?

Buck gotta disagree with you as of now. The Braves have turned it around over the past two weeks and are in the midst of whoopin' up on the Nats again and if they hold on to win they will be four games away from .500 and could be just six games out of first in the NL East behind the Nats.
The Nats may have more power and better starting pitching but their bullpen could be their demise as they just fall apart at that point.

Terry, much as I LOVE American Footballs, it pales in comparison as to how big globally Soccer is. A good comparison would be ironically how big the NFL is vs the NHL regarding American Football vs Soccer. But right now its Braves time and then soon enough time for Football! Go Braves

And...the Braves just traded for a 1B player from St. Louis - Matt Adams.

                          http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/1...ouis-cardinals

                          Associated Press
ST. LOUIS -- The Atlanta Braves have found their fill-in for injured star Freddie Freeman.

On Saturday, the Braves acquired first baseman Matt Adams and cash from the St. Louis Cardinals for minor league infielder Juan Yepez.

The deal came three days after the Braves lost Freeman to a broken wrist. Freeman was expected to miss 10 weeks after being hit by a pitch from Toronto's Aaron Loup.

Freeman was leading the majors in slugging percentage when he was hurt, hitting .341 with 14 home runs.

Braves general manager John Coppolella said Adams will be valuable to the Braves beyond the time being.

"He's also played left field," Coppolella said. "He's a good bat off the bench. He will help us even when Freddie Freeman comes back to the Braves."

Adams said he's looking at the trade as the best thing for his career.

"I'm going to be able to play every day," Adams said. "But I can't say enough about the Cardinals and thank the Cardinals for the opportunities they gave me. It was a great run."

The 28-year-old Adams made his major league debut with St. Louis in 2012. He is a career .271 hitter with 56 home runs and 271 RBI.

Adams hit .292 with a homer and seven RBI coming off the bench this season and playing some in the outfield.

Jace Peterson, a utility player, was the Braves' first choice to take over at first base. Coppolella and president of baseball operations John Hart said the team had no first basemen in the minors ready to start in the majors.

Earlier this month, the Braves released aging slugger Ryan Howard from their Triple-A affiliate.

Coppolella said Adams is expected to join the team in time for Sunday's game against Washington. He will be expected to handle the position, at least against right-handers.

"He will have a chance to play a bunch early," Coppolella said. "We will face all right-handers the rest of the homestand."

The Braves signed veteran James Loney to a minor league contact on Thursday as insurance.

"We wouldn't have signed James Loney if we thought the trade would happen," Coppolella said. "Now that we had a chance to get a player like Matt Adams, we feel it's a way to make our club better right now."

A move involving Adams had been speculated since spring training after Matt Carpenter was picked to start at first base.

"When you looked at how our roster was constructed it was really hard for us to give Matt plate appearances," Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said. "Clearly moving Carp to first, and with the dynamics of plate appearances this ultimately made sense today."
