  • Alpharetta Outfitters "Busters and Dragons" Fly Tying Class - Sat. 6/9, 9-12pm

"Busters and Dragons" Fly Tying Class w/Steve Hudson!

"Busters and Dragons" may sound like the name of a new fantasy board game, but it's really the name of two classes of related flies for trout as well as bass and bream. The flies are Brim Busters and Rubber Legged Dragons, and if you've ever fished with either one then you know just how great they can be.

These flies imitate damselfly or dragonfly nymphs and are deadly wherever those insects are found. They also mimic minnows. They are great flies for big bluegill and for bass and have also accounted for many trout, carp, crappie and other species.

You'll learn to tie the basic versions of each as well as some great variations (including a special saltwater version of the Brim Buster).

Whether you pursue trout, bass, bream or other species, these flies will prove to be great additions to your fly box!

*Please note that this is an intermediate class. It is assumed that participants have basic tying skills (pinch wraps, thread management, finishing knots, and so on).

This should be a great class!

I'm especially looking forward to leading this clinic this Saturday! It promises to be particularly fun and enjoyable, and the flies we'll be learning are exceptionally timely too!

Specifically, we'll be focusing on two of the best warmwater patterns you'll find -- the Brim Buster and the Rubber-Legged Dragon. These are the flies that have accounted for the biggest bream I've ever caught, and with a little variation they also work very well for trout and even for saltwater species. We'll tie several different versions, including one designed specifically for saltwater.

    The clinic runs from 9-noon.

Check with Alpharetta Outfitters to see if there's a spot left. I hope to see you on Saturday!

    Best,

    Steve
