A shot at the Iron Skillet Title?
Once again this year we will be awarding The Iron Skillet Award to the best side dish served with our meal at the Fall Fling.
Do you have a recipe for baked beans that rocks your world? Bring it!
Does your Grannie's banana puddin' put all others to shame? Bring it!
Can you make a killer 'tater salad? Bring it!
We have had winners in the past that brought baked beans, Brunswick stew, Jambalaya, Pig candy (if you have to ask, you shoulda been there), and many other delicious goodies.
We're counting on you to help supply the side dishes for our meal. The only requirement is it has to be home cooked. We don't give the Iron Skillet to Publix for their tater chips....
We're only 2 weeks away, so lets hear it. Whatcha got?

Post here what you will bring, let's fill the tables with good eats and sweet treats.

Then burn the entire ram on the altar. It is a burnt offering to the LORD, a pleasing aroma, a food offering presented to the LORD. God loves BBQ!

And since he has won so many times, I believe fishnpreach has retired his Roosevelt beans from the competition. I also retired my greens, and trout8myfly retired his brunswick stew so the competition will be wide open.
I do have it on good authority both trout8myfly's brunswick stew and fishnpreach's Roosevelt Beans will be back. Not sure I want to stink up my house with the fine smell of pork products this year for the greens.

If nobody is interested, we will still have the traditional porknbeans and tater salad as well as Ferguson's BBQ who are out of Coal Mountain.

BTW: Here is a view of the prize. A fine "Made in America" Lodge 12" iron skillet.

We still need some sides to go along with BBQ, beans and chips. Baked beans, slaw, potato salad, desserts, anything you can imagine, basically!
We need you! If you are coming to the fling, bring a homemade side. Who knows, your name may be called as the "Iron Skillet Champion!"

Ha, the only photos I took at the Fall Fling were of the food "after" the NGTOer had started in on it. There were three or four other foods brought by members but they chose not to be in the competition. Thanks to fishnpreacher for promoting the Iron Skillet competition.

Preacher’s Roosevelt beans in their typical “empty” state by the time the food line ended

others not in the competition but brought by members, some fine potato salad, and some chocolate brownies that were tremendous.

The Iron Skillet battle came down to three desserts with Trout “R” taking the title. Here’s a few more food photos:

                      Justinjh’s Pineapple Casserole

Superchub’s bread pudding w/ bourbon custard

                      And “Trout”R”s winning “lush”

And the rest of the BBQ table including trout8myfly's fine brunswick stew!

                          Thanks Fishnprecher!!!

I hate to admit this but here it goes.
The 1st batch I made I had to throw it away. I got ahead of my self on the recipe and messed it up.

So then I had to go back to the store to get more ingredients.
Thanks for the votes guys and gals!!!!!!

Randy, you earned it. All the side dishes were great, its a shame to have to choose only one. Thanks to all who shared their culinary skills with us!

But the yellow jackets picked Pat's (Superchub) bread pudding, with the bourbon sauce. There were a couple of the little winged critters that committed suicide and drowned in bourbon sauce as soon as it was poured over the bread.
