• NGTO Now On Twitter!

This is a bit of a new direction for a lot of us folks here at NGTO. Twitter isn't 'zactly a new type of medium for communication, but the again, we took our own sweet time delvin' into the Facebook arena also too.

We have finally begun our own Twitter account so as to add yet another form of electronic communication for our faithful brethren (and sistren). This is so that we may develop a presence and keep in touch with those who have neither the time nor wherewithal to lug a computer around with themselves all day to keep up with what's going on by checking the message boards here, or the Facebook page.

Undoubtedly, it'll take a little while for us to truly find our feet with this new venue, but we hope that those of y'all that have Twitter accounts will take the time to add us to those you are following.

We are operating under the username @NGTOorg. Please add us to the list of folks you are following, and we'll do our best to reciprocate in order to keep up with you as well. Rest assured that any tweets you make regarding trout fishing and your success in that endeavor will be "re-tweeted" from our end to improve the communication amongst our growing community here at NGTO!

Thanks, everyone! We hope to have a tweet or two out this evening!

If you have difficulty understanding the post above, read it out loud and it should make sense. This NGTO member is known for his poor hill-billy upbringing and his affinity for all things from Louisiana (particularly if it relates to LSU). It makes for a poor mix of accents and much difficulty in translation. He was doing well for so long, but now seems to have regressed.

Swampy - thanks for all your hard work. The "youngins" will appreciate it no doubt. At my age, one thing Creech will never do is "tweet," but youth will be served, and thank you again.

But seriously, thank you for lifting the other NGTO foot into the 21st century. There's a gracious plenty of twits out there, and I hope they find it useful and informative.

Not a Twitter guy here either, but probably should be in my line of work. Interesting that so far, the only responses to this thread are from us old pharts that will probably never send out a single tweet. Wondering how our younger Millennial age NGTO members feel about Twitter? Do you use it or is it so "last century"?

If I had a Smartphone ...... I know an IT guy without a smartphone. Believe me it is a work related political stand then a personal choice.

Anyway, even if I had a Smartphone, Tweeting just does not appeal to me.

                  But that's just me.

                  Marcus,

what you are going for NGTO Facebook and now Twitter is awesome all round for NGTO and our growing family of fishers. One of the goals of NGTO is to communicate and share information about fishing. Bringing NGTO into the Twitter world will do just that for many of our members that do Tweet.

Thank you Sir for all your efforts !

                    I don't "get" Twitter

I agree with all the sentiments above: Good job, but I won't Tweet.

As a Devil's Advocate: Why does NGTO need this? I barely understand the need for texting (why not call?), and I certainly am under no illusion that anybody cares for up to the minute updates about my activities, nor do I need that from anyone else. I have never wished I could shout out to all the NGTOers WHILE I was fishing (as Sam said, "but that's just me")

Isn't this just another "thing" to have to maintain?

It's a generational thing to maintain.

Think of Twitter as a 140-character Associated Press or UPI news feed that everyone can receive at any time - or can use to transmit as a one-person news bureau (your challenge is finding the followers).

It's not tough to maintain but we'll need to come up with fresh and meaningful content. Let's see how many followers we have by the Spring Fling (April 5) and by then I'll bet Swampy will know the level of attraction. I think everyone will be pleasantly surprised. Maybe even very surprised.

And no, I don't tweet. Or twerk (which would be hysterical to see).

But i know that Twitter is just one more arrow in a quiver of good communications.

I've got a twitter but no clue on protocol. @DAshleyParker

by the time I learn how to work it, it'll be on the outs and something new will take its place. Cool that yall are on there now.

I still remember the refrain of one of the most popular barrack ballads of that day which proclaimed most proudly that "old soldiers never die; they just fade away."
And like the old soldier of that ballad, I now close my military career and just fade away, an old soldier who tried to do his duty as God gave him the light to see that duty.

Apparently we're doin' somethin' right. We don' have a huge follerin' yet, but we do have some rather large entities in the fly fishin' community who are follerin' us an' "retweeting" a few of our tweets. This happened frequently enough today that we got the follerin' notice:

When you make a "tweet", if you type "#flyfishing" somewhere in the message it'll allow that message to be spotted in a group of other related messages. Apparently, our tweets garnered more attention in that genre today, and someone has decided to make a little game of it and keep tabs.

Not bad. Not bad at all.

Setup an Instagram account as well. Then get an account with HootSuite to manage Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram all from one location.
