Hollis: I have two Orvis Battenkill 5/6 reels which were made in England, each with a spare spool. I am unsure whether these reels are the same size as the bent reel that you refer to which was not made in England. (Sometimes, firms switch manufacturing locations without changing specifications.). If the reels are "compatible" I would be willing to part with one for a modest price.

However, there is one catch. The last time I used one of my Battenkills, the line guard fell of and was lost which rendered it useless. I contacted Orvis to obtain a replacement and was told that they had none. (I have not yet tried to find a replacement part elsewhere--perhaps I should.)

Assuming that the line guard on your broken reel fits my reel, then it may be to our mutual advantage to arrange for you to obtain my reel and attach your line guard or for me to obtain your reel (or just the line guard to attach to my reel.)

This may seem to be a long-shot, but currently we are both effectively disarmed (when it comes to using a Battenkill reel) when only one of us may need to be. I hope to hear from you.
