When it comes to setting up your kayak there can be a lot of variables. Are you going to be a fly guy or gear guy? Plan on standing or sitting the entire time? Rivers or lakes? Species fished for?
I'm strictly a fly guy, mainly going for larger type fish, mainly fishing rivers, and standing...

I've made some bobbins and when you chamfer the ends of the tube it is still easy to leave a slight bur. I take a piece of string and add some polishing compound (could even use toothpaste) and run the string back and forth through the bobbin polishing the inside of the tube....

I throw them a lot for bass and striper and have great success. My earlier statement was that I just donít trout fish that much any more. Like most fly patterns you can make variants. Put a howitzer head on one and youíve got a great topwater fly.

My trout fishing trips are few and far between now. And on the Hooch even more rare now so I really don't give them much of a "trout" testing there. But if You've thrown one you know what kind of action they have....

I always hate this question as I am never in a hurry when I tie. To take a guess though... making the shanks, making the brush, tying, and coloring a little over an hour if staying on task. If everything was laid out and pre-prepared maybe get it down to a half hour for the tie. Tying with brushes...

  • Be sure to check out Tiers Row. I've been invited to tie at this years show and I'll be showing how I tie some of my favorite streamers. I'll be using a lot of the tools that I have built and showing the uses of each. Mark Keller (Fishmonger) will also be on tiers row showing his process for how...

  • It can really vary on what water you are fishing. If your fishing a lot of deeper water a sink rate of 6-7ips can be used. But on shallower water this will be dragging bottom. A 15-20ft sink tip with 3-4ips would be a good all around stream sink tip. You want a floating running line so you can mend...

  • Keep going upstream

With all the rains... keep going upstream.
Visiting my parents in the mountains this weekend and got in a little fishing. Had to keep going upstream to get to some lesser flowing water. Started with a brown right away. Didnít take long to get into the rainbows. And after getting above some falls...

    2018 review

It was another great year of fly fishing with plenty of variety. I caught striper, hybrid, white bass, shoal bass, spotted bass, largemouth bass, crappy, bream, shell cracker, channel catfish, common carp, rainbow trout, brown trout, and brook trout all on the fly rod. My largest striper of the year...
