  • I gotta run at least a couple hundred hooks through the new griffin I just got first before I start entertaining another vise purchase.

But man, when used right, those things just look like a dream to tie on. How long was the learning curve for you?

    Also, I plan on whipping...

  • Iíd appreciate it if you wouldnít post videos of that norvise.
    That is all.

Seriously though, I hope I see you at the fly fishing show so I can see one of those things in person....

  • I would have taken you up on your machinist wizardry but hopefully the replacements will be here soon. I also received the mongoose last night, but after a 14 hour day I put off setting it up.
Iíll make sure to bring the broke jaws along with me when you take me out on that jet, though!

    That’s funny! And thanks Phil.
So far I’ve sold micro buggers to Big T, blue assassins to AO, and I’m tying a bunch of frenchies(and probably a bunch more patterns) for competitiveangler.com. I’m also talking to Devin Olsen about most likely tying for his shop tacticalflyfisher.com...

Erik, Congrats on going commercial. Where will your flys be carried? Will you be doing any direct business? Your skills have progress greatly, keep posting. A few months back I caught my first on a mop I tied. I felt so bad for the fish, I almost culled it from the gene pool! There is no way...

    Griffin vise customer service

Iíve been tying on my Griffin Odyssey for just under a year now. It was a great starter vise and taught me a lot, but unfortunately a screw broke off in one of the jaws two nights ago. I called Griffin up and theyíre shipping me a new set of jaws no questions asked. I have started tying commercially...

I have been in the same boat for some time now. I’ve been putting off upgrading though. When I realized I could fit just as much stuff in my wader pockets as I can in the fishpond pack I quit carrying a pack altogether.
I have recently revisited the idea of upgrading, though. I’ve...

I can’t speak on their casting rods but I surely hope they are changing blanks on their nymphing rods.
I used the 10’ 6” 3 wt epiphany every week for close to a year and I never got used to the weight.

I’m in a similar boat and was gonna post a similar thread. My waders are done. I’m hoping to find some Simms at a discount this weekend so if anyone knows of anything it would be greatly appreciated

  • Well this took a turn!

Thank god there isn’t a right or wrong way to fish, because if there was I’d have quit a long time ago. As long as you’re legal then who cares?
Fishing is a journey for most people that has many different stops along the way with no real destination....

It helps to pull the fibers up at a slight angle while keeping them directly on top of the shank as I tie them in. I also stop every few thread wraps as Iím tying them in to make sure I havenít knocked them to one side.
I typically use between 3-6 fibers, 6 being the absolute most unless Iím...

Vance, are there any versions youíve had success with? The possibilities are endless with these guys and since I canít strip these down and start over like Iíd normally do with an unproductive pattern I want to try and tie proven versions instead of just free styling it.

    Perdigon crazy

So I’ve been tying about a year now, and early on I got some Loon thick and a cheap light for streamer heads. I through some old batteries in the light but never could get the resin to harden right. I just decided to avoid the stuff. I figured quality uv resins and lights were like dry fly hackle,...
