  • Do you catch any fish that arenít hogs? Iíve got a feeling the ones that havenít been worth posting arenít exactly dinks. Thatís a real trophy out of a freestone river and that sandy beach makes me think of one in particular....

  • I donít have any experience fishing that creek but Iíve fished some of the other creeks in the southern end of the stocking area. They donít stock past July 4th but the powerbait and corn gets those fish long before the heat does.

If you manage to miss the crowd those creeks can be pretty...

  • The striped bass that got caught a few years back in the sweetwater creek lake was definitely a strange one. But the winner goes to the bull shark that was allegedly caught at high falls. Not sure if anyone ever confirmed that story....

  • Iím with Flyman NC. Dropshot nymphing has been pretty productive for me with the high flows this winter. For the bottom fly Iíve been tying small nymphs with a long tag for the dropshot and Iíll usually have a bugger or an emerger tied off a dropper a little ways up.

    Im curious how some...

  • I donít know about yíall but it looks like stillwater fishing is gonna be only thing on the menu for this spring.

Yesterday managed to undo a solid week of releases and weíve got plenty more in store for next weekend....

  • Prayer might be the strategy for the next few weeks. On the plus side, these fish are going to be coming off of almost 4 months with barely any pressure once the releases do end...

    Redington Zero

Placed an order for a 4/5 today and wanted to see if anybody here used one. I havenít used a clicker drag reel since I stopped using the old Martin tuna can i got as a hand me down. Iím got the teal color so Iím pretty excited about having a reel thatís loud both in sound and sight.

  • I reckon that unless thereís a shad kill the food sources donít change during releases so the fly choice might not change. Iíve always heard they feed regardless of the flow rate but that theyíre more likely to be found in areas that are marginal at low water when flow is going down.

    Ive...

    replied to 2 -3 wt
If youíre looking for a small 3wt you should check out the Cabelas CGR line. Not exactly the most glamorous rod but Iíve had the 5ft9in 3wt for a few years now and itís a workhorse for small stream fishing. Its not ideal for nymphing in deep water but itíll throw dries, wets, and shallow nymph rigs...

If the water level website is correct then Lanier is at its third highest recorded level as of this morning. Do downstream residents get warned if they have to release from the emergency sluice/flood down river?...

Besides the old reliable Whitewater creek/devils section (donít miss the tea-saucer sized red breasts in that section either) the best place to reliably catch pure shoalies is the hooch at Buck Shoals WMA. Absolutely incredible wading during normal flows and beautiful structure. The pic is the last...

    replied to Shoal bass question
I saw the stocking truck at Johnson Ferry during the middle of the summer two years back but didnít ask what was being put in. My guess would be shoalies if anything.

Theyre still above Morgan falls but thereís not many and the last one I caught appeared to be a hybrid. I donít think theyíre...

Can the webmaster filter posts that describe fishing during working hours on weekdays? The mental anguish and existential dread I experience reading about yíall having ďdays offĒ (not even sure what that means. Probably a hoax) and fishing during these 9-5 no release periods is crippling. Was there...
