Lake fishing for trout, IMHO, is really tough.
Why not take a 12 year old to Smith ck dh - shallow wading, tons of fish, and easy fly fishing.
There are other small streams that could be host to youngsters as well. Wild fish will usually eat just about anything that hits the water. ...

Blueridge is chock full of wild trout.
You are on the right track with the ones you mentioned, but I think most of nimblewill is on private.
Noontootla is a popular one that could hold a few bigones

Isn;'t there a wallhalla hatchery? There is a good speck stream right near there if memory serves me correctly. I don;t really care about stocked brook trout, except in my opinion they taste the best come delayed harvest.
Also, the ga genetics will be done if I have anything to say about...

My girl is into redecorating and is currently doing such to the entire downstairs of my house. I got her 10 gallons of paint and she had a smile from ear to ear. I feel like I really won here...
I also ordered her an Edible arrangement to her work - keeps her and the gals at work smiling and...

Dang, that's awesome - nothing better than catching big fish than catching big fish that stole your fly and getting it back. I would've loved to have seen that fish jump a limb and break you off... that must've been a sight.
Great report!

Wading during a release
Took the dog hiking today along the hatchery to buford dam trail - he loved it. Along the way, I saw two fellas in waders - the release schedule was alternating between 67 and 127. They said they hit some of the small run off creeks, but then I saw them in the mainstem of the hooch. Granted they were...

Vancouver
Headed to Vancouver in early March - anybody have any guide recommendations, rivers, etc to suggest.
I will likely have 1/2 day to fish, maybe a bit more, but it's the girl and I, so unless she can find a cute spot to sip wine while I fish... it'll have to be fast and furious.
Thanks in...

Heck yeah - that was buckman1 's kid, if memory serves - man that was awesome.
This here is just as fun.
Phil, I've already told you: GREAT FISH! I've seen you handle fish and you are one of the best at it.
The fact that you have dedicated yourself to learning the ways, hanging with...

Haha. Almost...?
I don't use fly line. I use heavy monofilament mostly. That way when I swap out the fly rig for a spinning reel it actually casts well.
These small brook trout streams are basically bow and arrow casts; and in my experience, limited as it might be, they strike SO fast...

Yellow.
Cast yellow flies - dries and nymphs from a yellow rod (i.e. eagle claw) it's like waving a magic wand up in them mountain streams!
Partly kidding.
DawgVet has it: Water temps. Add on top of that the rain making things crazy; it's probably not the best time to be chasing...

She could tell me the volcano in my backyard is going to blow right after we have 6 earthquakes, and I'd be on the edge of my seat the entite time, just hoping the cable didn't go out!
I also find it a joke that we cancel everything before anything even happens... I mean fortune telling,...

Easily one of, if NOT my favorite blueline fly.
I really like it in yellow, as well. I won't say where, but I once caught a 13" wild rainbow out of a stream on a yellow wullf.
And spencer slang a few to some trouts on the tenkara rod and absolutely slayed them.
Like Buck said,...

Yesterday was cold but amazing fishing.
The wind was so strong that I was forced to only cast in one direction, but that's where the fish seemed to be. At one point the wind was blowing water off the surface and my hands were quite literally numb.
I fished under an hour and caught about...

I like the tenk rods, have a few, but honestly, this collapsible EC is money. 6'6" so it can get into some small places. My issue with the tenk setup on the really small streams that are really overgrown is that the length gets to be a limiting factor. I would like to suggest they make an adjustable...
