Looks like you had a great trip and very pleased the boys had a good time. I could easily see how high (but clear) the river was as well as the lakes. At least it was running clear - it can get pretty silty when runoff is peaking. Now try to imagine being an undergrad college student, focused on...

  • Speck = Redford? Not sure about that but I bet Speck knows the difference between a rainbow and a cutthroat. Looking in the mirror after a long day of fishing with my hat jammed on my head, I decided that some year for Halloween I as going as R.E. Lee. My hair was sticking out sideways from the hat...

There are a couple fly shops in the Highlands area, one in Highlands and one in Cashiers. Well, if memory serves these are the two! There are several ponds in that area and the streams as mentioned. You may want to consider going east out of Highlands to the Horse Pasture or Whitewater Rivers, or...

Just read this thread and was going to suggest a phone rather than a camera, but at age 7 ....... Yep, camera is the way to go. Where you headed in Colorado?

"Moving to Steamboat ......... " I hate you ........ Not really, I just hate that it's you and not me! Beautiful area up that and at a comparatively low elevation for a ski town. Other than ski season, it's not too crowded up that way, and in short order you can get away from the...

No you do not have to keep fish you catch in any lake, pond or stream. You may be looking at the DH list of streams and those are only stocked October through May for the DH. However, stocking continues for the put 'n take fisheries....

All the DH streams are now hatchery supported meaning kill & grill rather than catch & release. Said another way, you can catch your brookie and eat them too! In truth, any of the waters in the western part of the state are fishing well right now. Summer is higher pressure on the fish with...

  • fishnpreacher made a great point about going north via one route and south via another. That said the fun thing about mountain driving is you can take the same route there and back but the views are distinctly different....

I have my first pair of boots with the vibram style sole and I notice the difference between these and felt on only the slippery most slimy rock. Think Tuck DH with those tilted rock slabs ......... that remains greasy underfoot! However my feet are happier when taking longer walks/hikes to reach my...

  • I learned of Doug's passing via some e-mails from associates at Rabun TU. I first joined TU in 1993 and within a couple of years learned of the Chattooga, the Rabun Chapter, and Doug. Doug was a staunch defender and promoter of the Chattooga for 50 years; a clear point of distinction on how all of...

  • Kelly makes a great recommendation. But if I may offer an alternative, take 64 into NC but in Murphy, rather than staying on 64, take 129 through Marble and Andrews and on into the Nantahala Gorge. You have great views of the Nantahala main stem (and likely rafter and kayakers) and later after clearing...

I like the hiking pants you can zip off the lower legs turning the pants into shorts. Quick drying, lots of pockets, including zippered pockets for stuff like an ID and your license - I do not carry the whole wallet. I have sooooo much money if it all got wet it would drag me down! 8- ) But seriously,...

  • NGTO initiated rules stating no political posting and no fisher lies about how big the fish was so that eliminated a lot of posters 8- )

But I have sensed a decline of new topics, no data to support this, but I have found the quality of the posts to have improved with more thoughtful writing...
