Single Lane Road?

Are you talking about Independence Pass? That one is two lane (or one lane if the plows are not caught up) and even paved. My first trips across Independence was on gravel and they just closed the...

7th Grade Girls Hall --- Again

Really? More snide remarks? If you care to toss barbs at one another please take it to the PM mode.

As for "unknown undertones", Blue Ridge and Fannin County are still small, mostly rural...

Cool Great Thread!

I have been enjoying this thread as a nice change from all fly fishing. I have several spinning rods from ultra light to heavy surf rods that can throw a small anchor! Like others, I have been...

Sounds Good

This sounds good and I have the deepest respect for Carl Riggs. But anytime you mix government and money you must watch the stir very carefully. Someone asked will X amount of dollars or percentage...

Compare/Contrast

I have spent about 7 years now working as a substitute teacher in our county middle and high schools. This latest exchange reminds me of walking down the 7th grade hall near girl's lockers and...

DH Stockings

I have discussed this idea with NC Wildlife several times and the explanation is that the hatchery schedules require the removal of the scheduled stocking at a date set well in advance. Part of this...

Personally I prefer a softer action for big streamers as you have to slow a bit to keep from snapping heavier flies on the back cast. Although my experience is based on a 9' rod. I would give...

Lightbulb Ah Ha!

Oh, THAT Big 8. The Big 8 included Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas State, Missouri, Oklahoma, Kansas, Oklahoma State, Iowa State, and Drake. Have to be honest here in that I have no memory of Drake...

Why Trophy Lake?

It became a trophy lake officially a couple years ago but had been a pig producer for years before that. It is something of a curiosity for NC Wildlife to manage almost as a working laboratory.

No Two

No two set-ups or tactics are the same due to the variables. Day of week, water levels, location, depth of feeding fish, current speed, and just plain luck. In other words I could share the exact...

How Tall?

A 31' wave? I heard up to 10' for a tidal surge. If a 31' wave hits all hell is going to break loose.

Michael Hits Beach

Looks like the Gulf Coast is going to get hammered. Heard the Mayor of Tallahassee saying they have not had a hurricane in over 30 years and never one more than a Cat 1. This one looks like a Cat 4...

Dumb?

I don't know if something with a brain the size of a pea should be called dumb - do they have enough brain to be dumb? 8- )

But if we are going to call them dumb, then my nominee is a largemouth...

Ministers must subscribe to service of something for these signs ........ but my favorite is from a church in Hendersonville:

Apalachia Lake

Yep, it is considered a trophy trout fishery but it's not easy. You will need a boat - shoreline access is limited, forested to the water line, and very steep. The fish tend to be very large and...

Cool Good Grief

Oh good grief. You wimpy trout fishers just do not understand the need to upsize your gear when you go to the salt. https://www.charlotteobserver.com/ne...219544575.html It's a salt water strike...

Big What?

" ... I believe it was the Big 8 back then ...".

If we are talking about OSU, MI, etc it was never smaller than the Big 10. Pacific may have started as the PAC 8? --jk--

Thumbs up Sweeeet!

Nice recall and touched me maybe more than others because I know that area below Creede fairly well, but I think not with the detail of your memories. Thanks for the reminders!

Lightbulb Or ....

Or you could replace the fly line with one from a line manufacturer with a built in loop at the end of the fly line. These are pretty common and the only kind I use. Besides all my attempts at nail...

Concur

I would concur with "dead drift'n" and add there are many variables here, the most noticed is how the seasons flow. A really cold winter can significantly slow down the little buggers by impacting...

Cool No Techies?

I detect a strong dislike of the boys across the big asphalt ditch from the Varsity. I mean they are a Georgia team after all. Short story, the old f$rt$ here may recall one year (pre BCS BS) when...

Two Cents

My two cents on the topic is to try on both, with your waders or at least the shop neoprene booties and walk around a little just like when you buy regular shoes. Your feet will tell you which ones...
