You adjust your bead size on stream conditions. I have flies (that I haven't gotten to use in a LOOOONG time) from 4 mm to 1.8 mm tungsten. Yes, you could use brass for slower streams.

The two staple flies for the hooch are a walts and frenchie. A black leech or wooly bugger is a good fly to have as well. Then add some small midges for when they get picky.

Nice report guys, nice to see the small fry and I've been catching a few of those at IF recently. Sorry about losing the trophy fish. Lately a size 16 walts and frenchie has been producing for me.

Most large arbor reels will balance a euro rod. The rod should balance right at the top of the cork before the blank. Yes you can use split shot but tungsten bead flies work better in my opinion.
