forgot - i run 4 lb and have used 2lb line on those small streams before....you can cast a 1/32 roostertail a surprising distance on that smaller line.....in fact i caught a 6 lb trout on either 4lb...

tippet rings

i use tippet rings - not split rings. im not sure if you would be better off with them. they are a solid ring, usually smaller in diameter, so no additional weight, plus the issues with the split...
