Default bobcats in cohutta wilderness area

I was up in the Cohutta wilderness area yesterday. We saw a bobcat cross the road in front us.

My first bobcat sighting in the wild.

It was booking it across the road, passed by about 40-50 feet in front of us. Easy to see the bobbed tail.

On a related side note - I did see recently on American Diggers where they where looking for native american artifacts up in Cherokee NC area. While out in the woods heading to a new dig site, they saw a cougar and caught it on camera.

I like that show.

Cool.

As to the "wild" cougar sighting, I'm skeptical. If true, it sure was good luck for him to waddle out there in the woods with a full film crew and run across a "wild" cougar that posed up close from multiple camera angles in an area where cougar existence is highly debatable. Good luck indeed.

Cougars are showing up in places that are hard to believe, I saw a face book photo yesterday of one in Boon Doon Ca. if you know that area, you'd believe they could be anywhere.

Suprised you did'nt see a bear. Seems you can't throw a rock up there without hitting one these days.

Catch anything?

Yeah, if you listen very closely, you can hear the cougars say "I am ready for my close up". Count me as a skeptic too!

Sounds like the time several years ago when Adam, my 26 yr-old, was 13 and we were camping at the West Fork Chattooga. He walked up on a woman ( he estimated in her 40's) who was standing in the middle of the river sans top wearing cutoff jeans. She said her matches had gotten wet and asked him if he had a light, He told her he didn't smoke and kept on going up the trail next to the river.

That was his first cougar encounter.

This I totally believe. Fishing in that same area several years ago with Reel'em-in I had similar cougar encounter. Multiple sightings, and in an even more natural state (sans cutoffs). That was a wildlife encounter I'll always remember.

You never know. While at Baylor, I saw a cougar between McGregor and Oglesby, TX way north of their known range. Of course my professors would joke around saying my thesis work was now interfering with eye sight. A year later, we found a dead cougar in the area.
