"Reading the water" is an area I'm trying to work on. I read books on this subject and I leave confused. So, help me out.

Starting at the steps leading into the river at Jones Bridge, at the head of the Island and continuing on to the shoals below the boat ramp, name a few features for me.

For example, what would you call the slower, deeper water between the island the the boat ramp - the part you must float and can't wade?

And how about the fast water on the west side of the island?

Are there any riffles in this section of the river?
