Just got back from fishing in the keys the past weekfor my yearly trip.I stayed in Key colony Beach with my grandparents and we had a blast.
Day 1 was spent out in the Bay fishing for mangrove snapper. We got 7 fishing cut pinfish on the bottom from 14-18 inches (yummy!) Day 2 held high winds and lots of clouds in it's midsts and not much of a chance to go offshore as i had hopped (16th bday for me too!) still got out on the reef and managed 9 nice sized yellowtails to the fillet station! oh and my grandad managed to break my fishing rod that he had set up for a downrigger. must of had a grouper that had "caved up" as it shattered the rod into 3 pieces. oh well Day 3 finally showed good conditions for dolphin fishing; low wave heights, and light winds. we went out about 10 miles or so and then the thunderstorm came up! We trolled for a little while but then decided against and headed in. salvaged the afternoon though by heading back out on the reef for 4 12-14 inch yellowtail snapper. Day 4 showed the high winds again so the only thing we could do was a bay trip. was definitely a tougher day out there with only 1 nice sized snapper and 4 barely legal sized ones for the cooler. also caught about a 6 1/2 foot nurse shark that bent the light tackle rod i had. In all a really good year again! I didn't get to bring any dolphin home for the dinner table but lots of tasty snapper to beer batter and serve up. i will add some pictures whenever i can but is it will be really difficult in my current situation. landon
