Does anyone own or have any knowledge about the NuCanoe brand of canoes. I really liked the way they look but you know looks can be deciving. I am not really looking for a boat but the deal I found in one made me do some thinking.

And love it. You can check some older threads and there was quite a bit of discussion on the pros and cons (I don't know how to link to a previous thread or I would do it for you). I think if you search "Nucanoe" it should be easy to find.

My biggest issue is I have not been able to put my boat in the water since the Fall due to all the rain! I am thinking about taking it Lake Murray soon to see if I can catch up with some bass going shallow during the winter time.

I've paddled the NuCanoe a couple of times now. Here's my thoughts:

* Its really heavy. Buy a trolley to get to and from the car/truck and get a rack that will let you lift it onto the roof/into the bed. Frankly the weight isn't the issue, its the size an width combined with the weight.

* It paddles fine on a lake with no wind or a river downstream. On a river, you either have to be a very good paddler or you have to stay out of the shoals. Anything Class 2 or above has a tendency to come over the back, esp if you have two people in it.

* Its got a nice clean inside deck. Good for fly fishing. Standing is easy.

* If I was going to fish lakes and calm rivers, and, on the latter, not try to paddle upstream AND I owned a truck, I'd probably buy it and drop a trolling motor on it. I'd probably buy the 10' if I was never going to have anyone with me or the 12' if I was bigger than I am (6/240) or taking someone with me on occasion.

As it is, I needed something lighter (I have a sedan with roof racks) that I could paddle upstream and stand in. Hence, I bought the WS Commander 120.

The Ultimate, Commander, NuCanoe, Tarpon, Ride, etc are all great boats and all work really well (I've managed to test ride most of them). Before you buy, though, think really thoroughly about what you want to do with it. Or, alternatively, if you have money to burn, buy the NC, a toon, a tube and jon boat. Oh, for a better economy and kids that don't burn a hole in my wallet...

There are LOTS of posts on Nucs, some of them mine.
You'll see a lot of pros and cons. I think the most important thing is to give some thought as to what you want from your watercraft.
Keep in mind that they are not kayaks. They are not Canoes.

Also, you can rent one at Up the River Outfitters for a trip down the Hooch (If the Corps decides to be nice that day. Another story...

)
