Barbless Hooks

If I encounter a Conservation Officer (that what they are called in New Hampshire) on Dukes Creek, how will they determine if my flies are barbless or not. I've crushed down the barbs but would like to know what the CO would consider barbless.

He'll run your fly through his shirt. If it snags pulling out... You're fined.
