that's a lot of Blackberries, mine have just started to ripen picking just a few, but I'm overloaded w/red ones, and I have one Blueberry that I'm picking from, I really have a bumper crop on about 12 plants, best ever. No Peaches, frost nailed the blooms, No Plums, squirrels stripped them while I was away . Good thing I netted the Apples. They never hit the Plums before just the early Apples?I did enjoy a few Bing Cherries before the Grandkids showed up, they stripped that tree bare in 2 days. Went out to get a few after they left, not a cherry to be seen ![]()

Wayne,
I have a row of blackberries about 100' long....they are in their second year. Are you netting your blackberries? This year was the first year I did it....and I'm covered up in blackberries. Last year the crows put a big dent in my crop. I also have an owl decoy with a bobble head. That prolly helped as well. I got my canes from Ison's Nursery and most of my blackberries are as big around as a quarter. They've really done well this year.

So far nothing after the Blackberries and I do see crows in the yard. I've had them out for about 4 years now, I have about 4 varieties mixed together, not sure which is which, takes about 3-4 berries (huge) to make a hand full
. I net the Blueberries, as all the birds eat them, my own fault though, I feed wild birds pretty heavy, trying to make up for for what I did as a kid w/a BB gun ![]()

Looks good! Nice place you have up there. Mine look just like that.
I over pruned my grapes, they look ruff, but I'll get a few

Those berries look great, I have a real weakness for blackberries, makes me want to look for a place in my yard that gets enough sun to grow them.

So today I harvested my early sunglow corn. That's not a variety I will ever plant again. The ears are very small. The one good thing I can say thought is that the stalks are very small and short and don't take up much space.

yea, it's not a very good one kurt... my experience is that the fewer the number of day to maturity, the worse...
the krispy king i grew this year has worked pretty well... the family loves it... i think it's very sweet (it's a triplesweet)... but a little too, 'krispy'.., but it has nice sized plants... some with 2 ears per plt... some set three, but i pulled one off of those... even pulled the second ear off some of the smaller plants... some plts just cant grow 2 decent sized ears... pulled them when they were small so the plt didnt invest much in them... just sowed an heirloom, golden bantam... here's something too..... last year i sowed corn on july 23 and it did ok... certainly not a big as earlier, but it was tasty, but small of course... so we ate corn from garden in early sept... not bad... bottom line is that you still have time to sow corn... we have so much, i had to freeze some... we have a big crop coming in next week... got some pics the other day.... just need a block of time to load them up... who knows when that will be... hope you get some rain tonight.... as i'm typing this there is rain in n. hall... and in extreme southern white, just north of clermont... we need it so bad.

We got lots of rain here in southern White county. The rain is good also b/c it makes the ground easier to till. I can see one more patch of ground being tilled for some corn. I have some sugary enhanced corn seeds.......... not the triple sweet. I just havested some butternut and lakota squash too besides all the other "regular" summer veggies.

1. Dwarf Blue Corns are whithered and dying for the most part. the best one is about 3-4 feet but most never made it past 2 feet. (about 30 plants)
2. Yellow Squash came out with big leaves and thick bushy stalks and produced ONE very lovely fruit. Then they shrivelled up into nothing. (about 5-7 plants) 3. Watermelon is very healthy and growing fast. (1 plant) 4. Black Beans are super, producing enough to harvest once a week. (25 plants) 5. Tomatoes are 5-7 feet and bushy with plenty of blooms. Very healthy. (about 15 plants) 6. Eggplants are healthy but were started weeks after everything else so are still early stage. Approximately 8-10 inches tall. (3-5 plants) I primarily want to get some idea on why such mortality with corn and squash. The corns were only spaced about 6-8 inches apart but they are dwarf and started fine. I culled a few here and there but all seem to be succumbing to something. Squash looked very healthy and they were not spaced too close for sure. I'm guessing too much rain and puddling may have caused some issues with the root systems but what do I know. As hot and dry as Augusta gets, I can't fathom a plant getting too much rain but yet, dead squash everywhere. Maybe someone out there has seen such destruction and can clue me in on what to look out for next time. Also, since I've got a little room now, I'm looking for suggestions on what to plant to utilize what's left of the summer. Something easy peazy lemon squeezy. Gotta get some photos of the remains so look for that in the near near.
