Great knot for low light conditions. Hard to see tying a clinch knot when the sun is almost down.

I've been using the Davy off and on for a couple of months. I like it for its quick tie capability but don't like it at 6x and finer. I saw an article in Flyfisherman magazine that said it tested out as one of the worst for knot strength. That one's got me scratching my head.

Here is how I tie it. The only difference is that I insert the middle finger of my off hand in the loop so that the pressure is against my finger rather than the eye of the fly. With a little practice you can do this with your eyes closed. |
