Dam 8/4 Giving a Little Back

The wife had a pretty big Honey Do list today, but I did get her to okay a few hours of fishing this morning. I got to the dam right about 8 and saw a father with his son and son's friend getting geared up and ready to go. I struck up a conversation with them to find out that they were brand new to fly fishing. I took a several minutes to talk to them about drag free drifting, getting the fly down and anything else that I could think of to get them off to a good start. I also pointed them to NGTO, so hopefully we'll see them around.

They had some egg patterns and WBs so I figured that they would be able to get into some fish. Once we got onto the water I gave one of them some on the water work as well. Nothing like the DFD class, but enough that he should have a decent drift going for him.

With that done, and after pointing out several prime spots in and around the big hole, I left them to their day and wandered down past the woodpile.

On the way down, I ran into a few NGTO guys doing a float trip. Hopefully they has a good day of it. I suspect, we'll see pictures of giant trout sometime tonight or tomorrow.

The weather was cloudy and misting pretty much the whole time. by the time I was half way back up from Bowman's it was raining, I could hear thunder in the background, so I high tailed it to the first takeout I could get to and headed home.

Fish count on the day was a little low. I had 5 bows, and 1 brown. I wasn't out very long and I spent a good amount of time with the boys. The way I see it, it was worth more teaching the younger generation than trying to have a 20+ day.

I tried a new fly today. I saw it on Gink and Gasoline. Half PT half GRHE. The brown was caught on that fly, so I guess it gets the brown trout seal of approval.

When I got down to Bowman's I switched from Nymph rigs to dry dropper. I wanted to see if I could catch my same brown in my honey hole. He wasn't interested, but I did manage a pretty little bow.

All in all, not a bad day's fishing. Here are a couple of pictures, cause if there are no pictures, it didn't happen.

I know you usually make it down there early on Saturdays and I was hoping to make it down there myself for a couple hours, but it was not meant to be.

Kudos on you helping out the new guys. Hope they were able to enjoy a bunch of tight lines.
