As I was going out to vote the thought came to me it should be called "The Politician" It appears to have 2 faces, a yellow spine and gold from someone else sticking out its butt.

I've seen it listed in books as the adams variant or female adams variant. I agree that it is a good fly!

Thumbs up

That may have nailed it Landon. Altho GBs fly is a poor attempt at the fly in your link. GBs fly has hackle front and back of the same length. The back hackle should have been shorter than the front. The tier also left off the upright wing on the front end. Leaving off the wing makes that a much easier tie. The center was ostrich herl tho.

This looks like a variation of the "Fore and After". Page 16 "Roger Lowe's Fly Pattern Guide to the Great Smoky Mountains". The variation being the use of yellow ostrich herl in place of either yellow dubbing or floss.

Here's an interesting article and there's even a picture of said fly at the top.

Cool, but I think you guys have too much time on your hands. You need to be tying more flies and quit typing so much.

definitely a jack gabe's hopper. I knew Jack personally even have a picture of him on the wall with two grouse and one of his prized bird dogs. Jack taught me to tie the hopper way back in 93 a few years before he died. He worked part time at The Main Stream Outfitter in the Highlands. A truly great outdoorsman.
