Now that's a good trip!
Makes it hard to drive north when you are catching great fish like that down south eh? If i may quote Randy "I like catching big fish". Be careful or you will be rurnt!

Great report and fish. Thanks for sharing. Really like that last photo. Riverpirate has a proven track record for catching the big ones.

I went out and bought some skip gap hooks and played with casting a fluke today. I think it will take some time to master the technique with a 6wt. Either I will need to downsize my flukes or use it as an excuse to splurge on a 7 wt.

Actually, I just grabbed a nameless fluke out of a tackle box. I had a feeling it was too big, but I just wanted to play with the rig before actually fishing with it. However, once I adjusted the timing a bit I could at least cast it. I am going to scrounge some smaller flukes and try out the rig on some Coosa River Spots.

Regular flukes do not work as well. Needs to be a Super Fluke Jr.

I myself had the pleasure of fishing with River Pirate a couple of weekends ago. My first hooked (not caught!) shoal bass was on a chartreuse Stealth Bomber which quickly took me under a rock and hunkered down like a grouper. This was a good size fish and it was exciting to see him hit on the top...unfortunately I broke him off while trying to finagle it from under the rock. The rest of the fishing was great, however I didn't catch anything that I was willing to pull out the camera for.
I'm happy to report that that changed this weekend. Utilizing RP's techniques I was able to get into some picture-worthy fish, or at least one . I took my 12 year old daughter with me and she loved the warm water fishing more so than our usual excursions for trout (bathing suit vs waders and if she got bored she could swim.....while dad fished of course!).ImageUploadedByTapatalk HD1344207333.006032.jpg Sorry for the small photo...I haven't figured out how to do a larger image using Tapatalk. Thanks again Randy for sharing your knowledge and showing me the ropes! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD Last edited by KeithO; 08-05-12 at 07:39 PM. |
