I've been meaning to post a photo of her, but didn't really have any good ones to share...well this morning was a beautiful foggy morning on the hooch and thankfully my brother thought well enough to snap a photo before we headed out.
She's a 1979 highsider with a "custom" paint job in FSU Garnet and a 4 stroke Suzuki 2.5hp Over the last two weekends I've made a few trips from Azalea down to Bull Sluice and up toward Island Ford and this morning we cruised Medlock Bridge and hooked a few rainbows upstream from the ramp. I'll mostly use her on the hooch, but thinking of dipping her in the saltwater this summer as well. So far, its been an excellent boat for the hooch and I'm pretty impressed with its capabilities compared to a canoe or kayak. Anyways, I welcome any/all tips on which ramps to launch from, where to go, etc. as my experience with the hooch thus far is mostly from Cochran to Paces and I'm not daring enough to run that section with a fiberglass hull... Hope to see some of you on the river soon!! |

It 'pears raht quickly to me that you mostest certainly do have a very good craft fer the waters of the 'Hooch atween JB an' McGinnis, as well as Lac du Bull Sluice. Lahk you already said though, there are a lot of good fishin' places on the 'Hooch that ain't gonna be too particklerly comf'terble fer a fiberglass hull. Next thing to do to her, however, is git her GA registration numbers put on her in a nice FSU metallic gold, an' give her a name! (Consider a trollin' motor on her as well. A thutty-pounder should werk okay, but bein' that she's a 15'-4" high sider I'd consider goin' up a size to a little better than a forty-pound thrust.) Hope to see ya on the 'Hooch soon!

Nice craft! I normally frequent Bull Sluice in my Rivermaster (Sage color 16'), but I have been checking out some other areas lately. I'll keep my eye out for you to say hello. There is a "fleet" of us that gets out together from time to time - SA will log your name in his "thinker" and post when we are going to get together!

Thanks Swamp...the letters and name are on order (in complimenting Gold...well, yellow...as you noted). Her name is Renegade...bonus points to anyone who gets the FSU reference
![]() Also, what benefits for the river does a trolling motor provide aside from less noise? I originally intended to use a trolling motor exclusively, but decided that the hassle of charging the battery and potentially running out of power mid-trip were reasons enough to switch to gasoline...hence the little baby motor that's on it. Plus I figured that the faster I went, the more damage it would do when I hit something ![]() |

Trouty -- I'll try to look for you at the ramp or on the lake...I'll be fairly easy to spot in the parking lot as I'm probably the only small black trailer behind an Acura RSX...I get some fun looks from people at the ramp, but I'm getting much better mileage

As fer the Renegade name, I'll fergive ya. I reckon I coulda named mine Mike the Tiger if'n I'd thunk about it long enough. Shoot me a PM with what font you'd lahk the name in an' I'll see if'n I can git it to ya at the fall fling if you can wait that long. Else-wise, we need to hook up sooner in a Naval assault on some finned foe somewhere! (I'll need enough time to visit family in Dothan, Alabamastan to git the letterin' fer ya!)

Congrats on the boat! I guess we're the two newbies to this kind of craft here. I love mine. I went out with Swamp Angel last weekend and learned a lot. As for the trolling motor, it absolutely necessary for maneuvering while fishing. Ie if you missed that good brown under the log, you can run up and try again without cranking and scaring him off.
Swamp, I'm all fixed up and ready to go again! I'll be chasing reds in south Louisiana this weekend though. Let's all go for a ride soon!

I been readin' through all the baby namin' books lately, an' I think yer momma mighta jes' made that name up!) ![]() Good luck with those reds! Catch a couple in the slot an' then ask one of them coon-@$$e$ how to properly prepare 'em fer the table.
