Rant Warning-----
Nearly every student I have had this year that came for Euro Nymphing has told me that XXXX person at XXXXX shop told them XXXXX about European style nymphing. Nearly every time they are not correct. Its not even about not being correct about the techniques….its that they are not even in the same ball park. In my experience the kids/"experts" they have running many fly shop counters pump a lot of bad information out….as I talked about in my seminar. Its really ashamed that its happening. For years now I have been the step child in the fly shop because I would dare compete with a fly rod lol. Now the same guys are trying to jump on the bandwagon and profit on misinformation. Im all for doing business but its really ashame to see how this is starting to unfold. Our overnight "experts" are not providing correct information which in turn slows down the progress of a beginner to the technique. Which then waters down the very thing they were trying to profit off of. But I digress.

When dealing with specialty stuff like euro, spey, bass, musky, I call the guys that know their stuff. I tend to use Jeff at Blue Ridge Fly Fishing for a lot of my comp stuff because he's a fellow competitor, answers the phone (706 258 4080), knows what he is talking about, and has everything in stock. I like to get Cortland, Trout Hunter, and Rio Leaders in one place. I don't have any alliances or personal sponsors….I just fish what I like. Most guys just search the internet anyway….but Im pretty adamant about supporting small and local business for whatever its worth.

Good stuff Paul! Do you know of any local retailers that carry the Cortland Nymphing rods?

Correct, Steve, that is the Blue Ridge shop. Paul put the phone number in a previous post. I know Jeff has the Cortland rods. I don't have one but I know Bret does and I hear nothing but good things about them.
