Default 2017 Fall Fling Iron Skillet Contest for Side Dishes!

It's time for the annual Fall Fling and that means it's a chance for you to win the coveted Iron Skillet award for bringing the tastiest side dish!

NGTO will provide the main event but we still need as many side dishes as we can rustle up since the Fall Fling usually brings out about 150 to 200 hungry people. You don't need to feed them all (unless you really want to) but a little extra is greatly appreciated.

Always needed are deserts and it's perfectly OK if we have three different batches of Chocolate Chip Cookies or four different sets of brownies or seven kinds of gooey cake.

Baked beans, green bean salad, three-bean salad - if it's got beans in it that's great!

A big batch of grandma's secret slaw? Wonderful!

Tater salad? Heck yeah!

Corn casserole? Bring it!

The only limit is your imagination. As before we'll have paper envelopes in front of each dish on the buffet tables. Fall Fling attendees will receive a ticket to vote for their favorite homemade side dish. The cook with the most tickets wins the NGTO Iron Skillet!

No, really, it's an Iron Skillet (well, this year it's an Iron Dutch Oven).

You also win culinary bragging rights for another year. Or until the Spring Fling, whichever comes first.

If you bring a side dish, please bring them around to the back side of the Hatchery garage. A member of the food prep team will handle it from there. After the fling you may pick up your cookware from the serving tables. You can plug in crockpots or warmers in the garage.

Voting will take place during meal time when each attendee will have received a ticket to place in the envelope placed by each side dish.

So please start thinking about those side dishes and we'll look forward to seeing them - and eating them - at the Fall Fling on November 4!

Just a reminder that any and all side dishes are welcome (well, maybe not haggis). Plus if you win you'll get a cool cast iron...something...on or in which to cook.

I'm going to do greens again because they seem to go good with the Q. But since they won the iron skillet last year I'm bowing out of the contest.
