Default Messed-up fish

This isn't a trout report, but it's a small stream report. I thought you guys might find this interesting. I caught this Chattahoochee bass in a small tributary of the Chattahoochee River last month. I was baffled by its unusual coloration. It was a perfectly healthy specimens and fought unusually hard for such a small bass. I showed the picture to the Dredger, and he said it likely had unregulated melanophores which could either be a genetic trait or something like the effects of a pervious illness or injury. Crazy, ain't it?!

Cool Size & Age

Given the size I will assume a young fish. The coloration could be the result of this being a teenage punk bass, or maybe early Halloween costume?

But yes, very unusual coloration!

I’ve seen a couple smallmouth like that floating around insta. Let us know if you learn something definitive.

Wouldn’t a jet black red eye bass with glowing red eyes be pretty creepy!
