Default Hikin' n Fishin' Part 2 (Friday, June 8th)

Back on the trail this weekend with a few buddies. We had an excellent time, though we endured some tough elevation gains and thunderstorms.

I convinced my cohort to camp our first night by a good wild trout stream. Friday night, after we set up camp, I quickly rigged my gear and headed to a little run. In the fading light, I caught my best wild rainbow to date!

Put up a great fight - I'm so used to quickly landing 5" trout in my hat, so this was a great surprise. Took him on a natural hare's ear dropper rig.

A few minutes later, got this beauty - plenty of spunk as well!

Woke up next day and set out on our hike. Picked off a few brookies on the way - one a decent size that jumped off the hook at the last second. Put my good friend on his first ever trout! A great joy to see him come alive with excitement for even a small guy - they are so cool! A highlight moment of the weekend.

Took the dry fly - quickly released.

Other cool stuff:

Ticks were out in force - wear your bug spray.

Have a great week!

That's awesome your friend caught his first. I imagine he's hooked now.

Great report and pix; that first bow is a stud.

Waitin' patiently for Part Three. This has been really good so far. Don't stop now!
If you have difficulty understanding the post above, read it out loud and it should make sense. This NGTO member is known for his poor hill-billy upbringing and his affinity for all things from Louisiana (particularly if it relates to LSU). It makes for a poor mix of accents and much difficulty in translation. He was doing well for so long, but now seems to have regressed.
