The tackle rig sounds about right. People fish on the bottom w/ cut bait and drift live bait under floats. As you mentioned you can often find bait off the south shore of Cumberland. We have found them both inside the channel and outside on the beach right in the "corner" where the jetty meets the beach. Careful for shallow water and unexpected breaking waves when you are close in there.

Yes. Tarpon can get very large in that area. They follow the bait (pogies and mullet and 'cigar' minnows) north in early summer and then follow them back south in the early fall. I believe one of the older TV fishing show hosts (maybe Rowan Martin?? or is that Roland?) did a show there a few years back and caught one around 200#.

You may not catch many tarpon but the ones you encounter will be of decent size. Lots of sharks in that channel as well. They can be a lot of fun.

Thanks Riser! My brother and I are getting really pumped about this trip. I think half the fun of fishing is the preparing. I have been tying leaders and prepping everything for about a week now and still have a week and a half till we get down there.
