I came up with a nymph pattern and I had decent luck with on my recent trip to north carolina. It is a variation on a Flashback Hares Ear with some small differences. My brother actually caught the biggest trout of the trip on this fly.
Hook- size #14 Head-gold Brass bead Thorax-blue ice dubbing Wingcase-Ultra Flashback blue Abdomen/Body-Ultra fine dry fly dubbing (black) Rib- medium width flat silver tinsel Tail- Light Tan Elk Hair It is tied about the same way as a regular flashback Gold bead hares Ear. the Silver tinsel should be wrapped a bit closer together so that equal portions of silver and black dubbing show through (strip kind of look). Also, the flashback should cover the top of the abdomen as well as the thorax. I will post pictures as soon as I can get a camera and some free time. Enjoy and let me know if you have luck with it as well. |
