Default New AFFI Instructors!

Saturday 10-1-11 several if not everyone who took the course were NGTO members, and the majority were Team Dead Drift members. Ken Morrow from the Adaptive Fly Fishing Institute carried out a rigorous day of training, tests, and certifications in the AFFI Casting Certification, and the AFFI Therapeutic Guide Certification. From basic casting instruction, to adapting casting instruction elements to fit the needs for need based instruction for those with mental and or physical disabilites, to on water safety protocols and elements of safe event and trip planning with persons of special needs.

Congratulations to Justin Pickett, Scott Brown, Jamie Sullivan, Derek Geldhauser, Seth Sullivan, Andrew Brown, Bret Nelson, and Hunter Hoffler.

If you haven't checked in to what the AFFI does, it's mission, and who they most help, please do. Especially those of you who enjoy helping with Fly Fishing for Veterans.

I plan on continuing my full immersion therapy into all things fly fishing, this course will help me give back a little better!

Default Thanks!

I think this is a huge step in a positive direction for those of us on Team Dead Drift, and for the individual accomplishment and knowledge that can be used to share the joy of fly fishing with those less fortunate. These certifications are directly in line with the Mission Statement of Team Dead Drift and a way we all can give back just a little bit better.

It was my privilege to spend the day with this impressive group of trout bums and slightly mal-adjusted young men who are...nonetheless...trying their hardest just like the rest of us.

I was particularly impressed with the 3 youngest attendees. These are some talented young men with a good balance of confidence and humility. Don't lose that fellas! You have endless possibilities ahead of you to enjoy if you remember: it's not all about you, you'll never learn it all, you can learn something important from a beginner/a fish/a puppy/a non-angler so pay attention, you're way ahead of the crowd so be willing to share, and relax...it's just fishin'.

I've done these courses for groups of healthcare professionals, educators, guides/outfitters, and fishing club program volunteers. This bunch was...from end-to-end...the most capable, skilled, and knowledgeable I've taught. And I've had doctors, nurses, psychologists, cert financial planners, university professors, government officials, tons of folks with graduate degrees, etc. in these courses. But when it came to answering questions and coming up with their own solutions to the challenges they were presented with, this group was the brightest to date...and missed the fewest questions on the exams.

GA's fly fishing community should be proud of this motley crew! (now watch...one of 'em will get arrested after getting stuck in the ventilation system trying to rob the Fish Hawk next week and I'll feel like an idiot for braggin' on 'em)

And Fern Valley was just what the doctor ordered. What an awesome place and two of the nicest people I've met in a long time. What a rare gem that place is!

Now...if I can just live through this danged COLD that SOMEONE (who shall remain nameless) gave me.
