Default I need a St. Simons Guide for fishing August 17th or 18th

Hey Folks I'm looking to book a trip for four Novice fishermen/women to have a good time and perhaps catch some fish. Nearshore or offshore would be great and a 4-6 hour trip would be perfect. I would like to book soon but I'm not sure who to contact or what rates are, or if the fishing is good right now.

Thanks.

If you want offshore, look up Capt. TJ Cheek.

Look here in the NGTO Sponsors Forums--Fly Cast Charters, Capt Dave Edens in St Simons. He grew up there. He has been around NGTO for over 10 years.

Right now is prime season for tarpon in the Golden Isles (or usually is) and many guides will be focused on them and may be booked. But check as cancellations do occur.

Beyond Capt Dave, Larry Kennedy and his boys at the Bedford Sportsman South are well known for the fly rod. Scott Owens is also another well known guide that will do flyfishing.

These others I recommend are more geared to putting you on fish than focusing on flyfishing. If available, google them and call them and explain what you want.

Capt Mark Noble - Probably knows the area better than most. I fished with him in the 70s. If you want tarpon he is probably better at it than anybody else. Tell him I sent ya.

Capt Ashley Parmelee - 2010 Guide of the Year whatever that means. But I know he has been fishing the area since the 70s.

Capt Duane Harris - My choice because before he retired and became a guide he was the head of the Coastal Resources Division of the DNR. If anybody knows about the resources of coastal Georgia, well, it would be him. Good guy too.

Inshore fish are everywhere and the tarpon tend to be in 10 to 12 feet of water right off the beaches so 1/2 day trips are doable. Because of the broad slow slope of the Georgia coast our offshore species tend to be WAY offshore and those trips tend to cost a fortune and be long due to gas prices and the time it takes to get offshore.

I know about a dozen other guides from growning up there. PM me if you are still looking after all the folks mentioned above.

And as I said in another thread, usually in August it is "bake your brains" hot so prepare for it.

I talked with Larry Kennedy's wife last week and he has had a stroke and is not guiding right now. Keep this great guy in your prayers.

Capt Sonny on St. Simons Island is by far the best. He works for Mark Noble, Inc. ( Mark will take you fishing regardless if the tide is high, water stained and fish are not biting ) and tell you "Wasn`t that a great boat ride boys"
Call SONNY!!

This is Larry Sr. that had the stroke. And please all keep him in your prayers. He is a true gentleman and a great ambassador for our sport.

Larry Jr. is still guiding, and he is an excellent guide.

All of the guides mentioned are great at what they do.

Default Duane Harris

My friends and family and I ended up spending a great half day fishing with Capt. Duane. His trip is first class and he is a first class gentleman and fisherman. Everyone enjoyed the history and hydrology lessons from put in to take out. The weather held off nicely and we enjoyed a few nice speckled trout and some cold stella's to cap off a great day. If you have young people, or people who are looking for a good day on the water regardless of the catch I would highly recommend Capt. Harris. He is courteous, patient, professional and prompt.

Cheers,

Matt Mundy
