Not a surprise, this was the target. Friend has a pond full of big cats, so I decided to try and see if one would take a fly. It did, and was a pretty good fight.

Nice fish! Do ya reckon this is what makes them Yankee fly-fishermen turn their noses up at us southern gentlemen when they see us with a fly rod? I can think of a few that would swoon an' faint at the very thought of a catfish being the target of a fly-angler!

Great catch!

Swampy,

Nah, I'm a Yankee and I've caught channel catfish on dry flies in the Delaware River. When I discovered they would come up to the top I deliberately targeted them. They were more fun than fallfish. I've also read about dry fly fishing for channel cats in the Susquehanna River.

Channel cats on the fly were lots of fun.

So, there are Yankees who target catfish, and carp, and fallfish, and even goldfish !

John
