Default vitreous detachment

Six weeks ago I couldn't spell vitreous detachment, and now I gots one!

This is about as aggravating as it gets. I went to my eye doctor and a retinal specialist, about 4-1/2 hours of flashing lights and Drs. looking at my eye, all to tell me there is basically nothing they or I can do. So for the next 3 months or so I am looking through haze, fog or wisps of smoke....but it could be worse!

Does it get better over time?

Ouch!

My dad detached his retina while in college many moons ago. It cost him the vision in the upper portion of his left eye, and further cost him a regular Army officer commission. It's plagued him for the rest of his life and drove him nuts because it affected his depth perception so badly.

Prayers offered for your full recovery, Brother Bill. Hopefully it won't affect your casting too adversely in the time it takes to heal.

Terry, it will gradually clear over the next 3-6 months, according to the retina spec. There is no tear at this time, just a blood vessel in the retina that is being pulled by the vitreous. So, no heavy lifting or anything that could jar the eye. Driving, light work, all on the OK list.

Dr said I have a 10% chance of a retinal tear in the next week, after that it drops to 1%.
