If you are going for wild then you can't get any better then using a size12-16 hares' ears nymph and\ or wet fly. My largest wild rainbow was caught on one and I have seen a good sized wild brown hooked on one. The last isn't really one that you can buy, but if you tie flies shoot me a pm. Also I would suggest stopping in at little river outfitters. (down in townsend, tn which is about 30 minutes or so from gatlinburg) They will be able to tell you what is hatching as well they have a ton of gear that might prove useful.

Are you talking about this? Stocker fishing. Looks like these fish will be put in right before the tournament and it looks like it's open to bait fishing. Only rule I see is single hook. It also says there's no fishing the day before the tournament but that doesn't mean you can't go scout holes for fish.
btw, give more information in your requests. You're leaving lots of guesswork for those that would like to help. http://www.rockytopoutfitter.com/register.htm Last edited by Rusty Fowler; 07-11-12 at 01:45 PM. |

Yeah much like the one the city of Helen has every year on opening day. Its like a blood bath in the water, and is totally against anything the a "fly fishing competition" is or would be. In fact it is totally open to any type of fishing with hook and line.
Cherokee, Helen, and Gatlinburg have had MANY catch and kill harvest Tournaments for MANY years. Never partook nor do i have a desire to partake in that sort of competition, but if it is legal and the bait and spin guys dont mind destroying the stocker hatchery then by all means let them do there thing...These types of tournaments are stocked the day before, and are much more of a Harvest type event than a tournament. In fact Cherokee has one for kids as well, and tagged fish worth monetary prizes. FYI all FF Competitions that DD, TS, or TL leagues partake in are Catch and Release FIPS MOUCHE, which requires all fish to be released alive and healthy as quickly as possible after being netted and measured. A fish that does not live, results in a penalty. Crowe what is your email, I will send you a fly pattern that catches BIG Fish consistently. Hope you can access some Tungsten Beads...

Yeah, in heavily stocked tourist town waters where they SHOULD be.
Guess what zuggy buggy? They also have a trout rodeo up there for the kiddos. Most entries in this tournament will likely be kids. Shame on them, we should just go up there and dicipline all those rotten kids. |
