Many thanks for planning the demo.

To those not sure about seeing the rod building demo....all I can say is watch him for a few minutes. At some point the light will go on and you will figure out that rod building, at its most basic, is easy to do. Your rod may not look as pretty and refined as Mike's, but guess what? It will still catch fish!

If you have patience, or the understanding that sometimes you have to walk away and calm yourself, you can do it. If you plan ahead and get the cork you really like, the reelseat you have admired for awhile, and line guides that interest you, the very worst that can happen is you will have a wonderful rod that makes you happy and fishes great; and it might have some flaws that 9 out of 10 people on the stream or in the parking lot will never see.

Would there be any interest in an outdoor photography demonstration?

Hope I can make this years event. I've been down in Baxley for our outage since the beginning of Feb. Supposed to be over by March 15th, so I might be able to make it.

It's only a few weeks away and this is going to be a great Spring Fling. I spoke with Trent Sizemore last night and he'll be putting on a Q & A demonstration on Outdoor Photography. I know I'm really looking forward to seeing his work and getting a few tips.

Check out Trent's work at:

It's also time to start thinking of side dishes and how you're going to win this year's Iron Skillet.
Make sure to bring a folding chair too.

Perhaps I missed it but how does one sign up for some of these seminars? I'd like to sign up for a lot of it.

Big Drew, the only event that requires advanced sign up is the Drag Free Drift seminar at 8:00 am (and it's best to get there around 7:30 - and bring a PFD!)

Otherwise, just show up and have fun!

Great! I'll definitely be there bright and early. I would like to sign up for drag free drift too.

Is this event BYOB or is there no booze since this is at the hatchery?

Big Drew, you need to sign up in the DFDS thread:

2012 Spring Fling Drag Free Drift Seminar

And bring a PFD! Mandatory.
