Default Muddy water at Powers Ferry

I passed over the river on 285 at 1:00 this afternoon and the water at Powers Ferry is like chocolate milk from this morning’s rain. Is that necessarily an indication of what to expect below the dam tomorrow? I was thinking it might because the lake may be stained as well. Thanks!

If you mean below Morgan Falls dam, yes, most likely. The lake above (Bull Sluice) has very little storage, and so is not a buffer for dirty water coming from above.

It takes an awful lot to stain the water below Buford Dam. Doubt this was enough. It should be fine.

About half the river was pretty stained below the dam. I’m sure it’s crystal clear above has creek but it was the most colored up I have ever seen it down mid island or so.
I’m sure it will have cleared up a lot by tomorrow though.

OK. The water at 285 tells you zero about conditions at BD.

You will have bout 3/10mi of clear water below the dam. We motored almost all the way up and James creek directly below Hwy20 has some serious silt issues going on upstream. It is what is making the river smell like red clay in the upper tailwaters.

It was a beautiful morning with cold, clear water and a nice breeze. Pepe Le Pew was an uninvited guest.
