Well, I'm a gonna share what i believe is a Blue Ridge Secrete. I learnt this from a welder who was doin some weldin for me. Anyway, he had a little racin go-cart there. I asks him what he does with it and he says his son races it. Well, it looks kinda like a mini NASCAR so I asks him where he races it. He says "El Cheapo Raceway". Well, I ain't never herd of it so I asks him where it tiz. Well, from Blue Ridge it ain't too close, but it ain't too far either. But you gotta know the SECREAT. It's on Mountain View Road close to McCaysville. But ther ain't no signs.
Back in the day when I was a 4-H'n and FFA'n we would use Mailbox posts to raise money. Now, I don't know if up in yankee land were some of you stockers are from know about this stuff or not. If not, cause this is real impotent if you want to go there. They are concrete post shaped like an upside down "J" ... kinda. An they got FFA on their sides. Anyway, if you can't figger out what they looks like, then you ain't gonna find this place cause the SECREAT is ..... you gotta drive on Mt View DR untill you see 2 FFA mailbox post on the left side by side. (theys ain't no signs). Now, you could find you way be drivin up and down the highway with your windows down and lissen for the noise....or...just park by the side of the road and follow the car until you find one goin there. Now, my Sweetie told me that mournin that she was a wantin a "Date Night". I remember when I used to get real excited about this. That was about 30 years ago as best i can remember. I think that the end of "Date Night' used to end with a ..... ah hum ...... happy ending at least. Now it just means that we get home late and have to go to bed and go to sleep wachin Johnny Carson, or whoever it is that is there now. I guess I don't make it to Carson anymore. (Now i gotta read what I wrote to see what I was a gittin at... I think i was a gitten a little excited there). Anyway I called her and told her that I had it all figgured out for "Date Night", but I didn't dare tell her what it was. So's I get home and there she is all made up, in her best clothes and smellin like something that would really not work too good on a dear stand. But it smelt good to me. I told her that we was a goin on an adventure. Now, my daughter used to tell her friends that when I said we was a goin on an adventure that "adventure was just another word for trouble". I guess my daughter had a pretty rough life. Anyway, I convinced my sweetie to go, without tellen her where she was a goin, cause our sun was a goin with us too, that made her happy. He's about 6' 250 lbs and really strong, but sometimes I think that i need to buy him a real small hard hat cause sometimes he just don't seem to think too good. But thats another story. So off we go. Now I dun told ya that my Sweetie lays out my clothes for me, so I was a wearin my Friday night best. We we finally fount MT View Road and lo and behold there were to of them FFA mailbox post. So we turned in and there was so many cars there that we had a hard time a parkin. But we noticed sumthin else. We was WAY over dressed. My welder was in the same close that he was a wearin that day and looked like every day for the last week. Most of the other folks wernt quite that bad, but i got to admit, they was kind of .......redneck. So here is my suggestion. If you ever in Blue Ridge on a Friday Night and want a unique experence.... go find urself Mt View Road and look for them thar FFA mail box posts and have urself some fun. If you are from around here, get out ya oldest overhauls, don't wear a shert and take one of them there sharpies and make you some fake tattoos on your naked arms. Get your sweetie and make her wear some very short short shorts, poof up her hair and give her some tattoos too. You'l find the salt of the earth people, the kind that have nifty stories, the kind that will give you the shirt off their back if you are in trouble. The kind of friends that will you not tell your neighbors about, cause they won't understand. But you will. Hey, they even got food and drink there. I ain't too sure about beer, but there is always the flask that i try to take to events like these. Anyway......Did I have a good time. All I got to say is that when we left my son was a pickin dirt out of my sweeties hair from the dirt track. How could you not have fun bein that close to the atchon. (i ain't asked my sweetie how she liked it). Man, you just cant get Friday nights like this in Atlanta. I hope that i have not written too much. But there's so many city youngons out there on this site that I feel that I just have to share with them what the Real World is about. Thank you for indulging me. |

Pappy, That has got to be one of the best stories I have read in a long while. I could almost smell the race gas and taste the dirt. I can only imagine how much fun your sweetie had. After all she was the best dressed gal in the place and probably the prettiest too. (Make sure you tell her that).
Thanks for sharing. Mike

As a former little boy of the sand hills of SC, I really enjoyed that! Glad to know that automotive love ain't just for fresh paint, decals and nomex suits.

That looks so nifty. But that track looks like a nascar track compared to to El Cheapo. You got asphult and we got durt. Yurs is about 3 times bigger. You got a fence and we got tractor tires for protectun. I gotta admit, my Sweetie was in the first row of seats and I was in the secund row safely planted behind her. I guess the only negatuve that you have is that we gets really up close and personal....like about 10' from the track. Can you tell the sweaty guys from the perfumed girls? Anybody know how to cheat up the HP on a lawn mower. I ain't used my in years.

Watkins....U got the address right.
Pappy....No asphalt at this track....We race dirt as well....It might be as smooth as pavement but it's dirt and changes bigtime thru out the night....U can get right up to the fence but becareful those karts are running between 50 and 60 miles an hour and will come thru the fence at times....LOL We don't race as often as we used to, now that Devin is in college but we get up there or to some track every chance we get, it's a blast. They race at Dawgwood just about every Sat night so Pappy bring the Sweetie up and watch sometimes....Hell get intouch with me and we will put on the pit crew. Brian |
