I'm happy the market is up but I wish my automated portfolio re-balance took place THIS week instead of a month ago. *sigh* Still, it's all good.

Hopefully this thread will cause some of our younger members to seriously think about investing.

I don't smoke any more so I should maybe cut that one loose.

Absolutely no adult industry stocks.

How do they do?

Stock Tip-o-the-Day:

My broker has been vigorously buying Phillip Morris Intl Inc ($106 a share...$110 today) for the past two weeks. Fire 'em up boys! :-)

Another IPO intended to make the founders wealthy...and then bail. See: Groupon

If they don't expect to make a profit I would not expect much in the way of dividends either. And if not to make a profit (in a for-profit company) why be in business?

Quote:
Snap reported growing revenues and increasing losses. Snap recorded $404.5 million in revenue in 2016, compared with $58.7 million in 2015. Net losses grew to $514.6 million in 2016, compared with a net loss of $372.9 million in 2015. Like many burgeoning tech startups, Snap warned that it may never achieve or maintain profitability.

Snapchat is a classic speculation stock. Buy first, watch the balloon and then bail just as the balloon starts to leak. Not for the faint of heart. My only concern about the recent growth is what the white house has said what it is "going to do" but there is no real record of what it has done - too early for that. And there is no guarantee anything will come of these promises. We have a very inexperienced executive branch. There is no real increase in valuation or profits, just that more profit will be easier to come by without spending any more capital. Be careful, I think the cracks are starting to show.

Facebook IPO opened for around $40 back in 2012. The naysayers were warning investors to stay away. Its selling today for $130-plus per share.

It's a crapshoot.
