Default St. Simons and Jekyll Islands Fly Fishing

I can't believe it has been six weeks since I posted a report. I have been very busy with very little time for the internet. Thanks to all the NGTO'ers that have been so supportive over the last five years.

We had a good set of tailing tides in mid August; and the reds responded, coming into the grass to feast on fiddler crabs. We have another set of tailing tides starting about Sept. 6. These should be some of the best of the year. If you have never planned a trip to the coast, you owe it to yourself to give it a try. This month and next will offer the best tides of the year.

The low tide red fishing has been tough, even on early morning low tides. We have managed to scrape out a few fish, but I am not seeing the numbers of fish on low that I have seen in past years. We do not have the numbers of reds that we have had in the past. If you come to the coast this fall, please be conservative in what you keep, and please don't keep any of red fish, even though they are legal, less than 17-18 inches. Reds smaller than that aren't even worth cleaning.

The jumbo Jack Crevalle have been in and out of our sound. We found some this morning, but couldn't connect. We always look for them when the conditions are right, and they will be right as long as we have clear water.

Trout and flounder fishing have been strong, and will continue to improve as the weather cools. Give yourself an early fall/late summer vacation, and come on down to SSI to "Hunt Fish in the Marshes of Glynn"

Derek had a great time in the grass earlier in August:

Danny landed this tagged red, and we added another one:

Jacob came down from North Carolina to fish to tailing fish:

We are catching some nice trout, too:
