Default It can be done

After nearly a year of targeting big browns on the river, I was able to net a 27" for a really good, long time friend of mine last weekend.

I went a long, long time wishing I would just see one and in the past month or so we have had alot of close calls with big fish rolling at lures in the middle of thunderstorms and chasing but not taking. (I'm talking high 20 pushing 30 inch fish). There's one big boy I've seen I think 4 times, 3 days in a row last weekend and can't get him to take anything. He is over 2 ft easy. Always in the same spot.

Weekend before last I had another good friend with a monster on that we couldn't get close enough to net and after the fish changed directions and put slack in the line, we think the line got caught around the reel and snapped 8lb line. Coincidently this fish from this past weekend was caught on the left side of the mouth, and his right jaw was healing up from something.

My buddy hooked him in front of the boat, downstream, and as the fish was fighting it was headed upstream towards me in the back of the boat so it was really a short fight (about 20 seconds, not kidding) It was making a run past the boat and I was there ready with the net and made the scoop. There was a brief moment in time as the net was rising that the fish hung on the frame of the net, his tail and back half in but head hanging out, I lowered the handle as I lifted and he fell in. I think that was probably my biggest fishing moment to date, just being able to net this guy. Like I've mentioned in other posts, we are using 15 or 20 lb braid with 8 to 10lb leaders for fish just like this. I knew this day was coming and I push all my buddies that I invite out to come prepared.

I was able to round out the day with a 14 and 16 which seemed like just icing on the cake.

That's what it's all about. I caught 7 fish today, but your fish could probably fit all of my fish in it's mouth at one time.
