Default Classic Bait Chucking Trip

So... I woke up about 8:something this morning to the sound of our 11 month old wanting his sippy cup. I rolled out of bed, wild hair, boxer briefs, and started toward the kitchen to get the milk... Something caught my eye to my right and I saw my 10 yr old nephew standing there looking back at me...

First words out of his mouth were, "Uncle Cool, you got any hair on your peaches or what, I want to go fishing?" What could I say, the boy just challenged my man hood AND asked me to take him fishing in the same sentence. Of course, I complied, and asked for his patience while I got ready. He agreed. 40 minutes later, we hit the creek on Lake Russell WMA.

His first cast:

Second cast:

Third cast (literally)

His limit about an hour later:

His limit combined with my limit for photo op:

It was fun. They were stockers. They will be swimming in grease after rolling in some mustard next week sometime, and I need a new jar of power bait. Until next time mi amigos!

You have succeeded at being exactly the uncle I have always wanted to be!
If you have difficulty understanding the post above, read it out loud and it should make sense. This NGTO member is known for his poor hill-billy upbringing and his affinity for all things from Louisiana (particularly if it relates to LSU). It makes for a poor mix of accents and much difficulty in translation. He was doing well for so long, but now seems to have regressed.

Default In my experience...

Dads are the one to thank usually for the genesis of fishing and close relatives such as aunts and uncles help nurture that mustard seed along. I am incredibly grateful for the men that took opportunities like this to spread our love of fishing and the outdoors and how to respect both of them at a young age in my life. It's such a strong bond that I came back to fishing after a serious long break. Keep that torch lit buckman1 and let it be an example for us all to strive for! Nice work sir!

Great job buckman!! My uncle got me started when I was a boy and sent me down this slippery slope that I've been on ever since. Last year my mother found and showed me me and my sisters Christmas lists from when I was 11 years old. Hers was a looseleaf paper filled with items front and back. Mine simply said "Dear santa, this year I want a fly fishing rod, flies, a how to fly fish video, jigs, lures, and other fishing things". That was it. Haha! I owe it all to my "Big Unc". Way to show the young man a great time in the great outdoors!
4 minutes, each side.

Its almost midnight and I just woke up my roomate who has to get up early for a flight. The way my computer is set up I only saw the deer. I read Your line then scrolled down to see that hat and its wearer's grimace. He came downstairs to look at what I was cackling at and all was forgiven...Thanks.
