Default Vice modification: Cradle arm addition

Still rainy out. Been watching a bunch of BigT tying videos. He has this cool swing around thing on his vice to hold the bobbin in place while using the rotary function for hackle. Naturally I got jealous and wanted one too.Honestly didn't even know what this swing around thing was called. Looked it up. Its called a rotary cradle. I used my engineering skill to fashion my own...this is temporary while I fashion a more permanent one out of wire like on the griffin odyssey spider. Boredom not necessity is the mother of invention :

Jim,
It appears that he has two table clamps and is using the top one to swing the bobbin rest into the desired position.

it holds your bobbin in place when used on a rotary vice, to allow access to the fly from all angles when spinning the vice. It is helpful as it gets the free swinging bobbin out of the wau, and keeps the bobbin from adding more wraps on top of your fly as you rotate the vise.

It makes a lot more since in practice than it does in words. I have this feature on my peak vise, and almost never use it, except for getting the bobbin out of the way for making dubbing brushes.

bobbin rest sounds better. Cradle arm sounds like a baby stealing monster.

Is that bobbin stuck in that chunk of dowel being used as the rest or is it supposed to be the bobbin used in tying? That's what I don't understand. Seems a piece of coat hanger wire bent to shape and attached to the dowel piece would work too?

Gout-U is a very handy guy! After seeing the awesome racing spoiler on the back of my Corvette, he just had to have one for his own ride.
