Default unexpected catch and tips from DNR LE in Cohutta

This is a few days late - from this past weekend.

Since I'll be heading to the Smoky Mountains soon, I decided to get in a little practice before hand. I Stopped at a roadside stream in the Cohutta wilderness that I've not fished for some time. After a couple minutes of missing/losing a few small ones (water was crystal clear and I could see the fish follow/bite at my fly), I landed a nice little (6-7") healthy largemouth bass which was unexpected as I've not caught one in this particular stream before.

After a few more casts, I noticed a DNR LE truck driving on the road that slowed and took notice of me fishing. I reeled in and started toward the bank in expectation of his arrival. After a quick license check, we had a few minute discussion on this particular stream. After learning of my upcoming trip to the smokey's even offered up some suggestions of other streams in NC. One steam in particular that was mentioned was the stream that i caught my first trout on the fly -ah the memories... He also mentioned another stream which he had recently visited with success that I had no knowledge.

After doing some research on this "new to me" NC stream, I've placed it in the top 5 of my "haven't fished it but will" list.

I was happy to see DNR LE out keeping people honest and even happier to learn of a new stream that i'll be hitting soon. I've yet to meet a DNR LE from any state that didn't offer up good tips!
