Default Sea Island Lake Cottages?

I will be attending a wedding this weekend and will be staying in one of the Sea Island Lake Cottages. It is right on a lake (makes sense given the name, I guess) and I was wondering if anyone has been down there/fished before. I would spin fish or fly fish if there is room. A friend of mine said, "Of course there are fish in there, its practically Florida. They are probably huge and get little to no pressure!"

Every time I hear that that type of optimism or think it for myself, I usually get a huge letdown . Just wondering if anyone had any info

I believe it's a gated community so if there are fish, yeah, they are probably unmolested. As they are so close to the marsh the lakes may have some surprises in there. I've caught saltwater species like redfish, snook and ladyfish in similar "freshwater" ponds on the island. May possible be tarpon. If it was stocked there are probably bream and bass in there too.

Throw a small MirrOlure on the spinning outfit or a clouser fly.

Yeah - the 4 legged-surprises will certainly be in the back of my mind. If I were to run into a landlocked red/snook would I be in trouble with a 7' medium Ugly stick and 20lb braid? I would assume throw the mirrolure at the end of a heavy leader fixed on with a heavy swivel? Any suggestions for colors on the lures?

E.G. is definitely the person you want to talk to regarding all things Golden Isles. Except for tailing Reds in the grass LOL. Right Bill?

On a serious note though, probably silver on the mirrodyne, anything chartreuse would be worth a shot too especially on a Clouser.

If you play it right, I wouldn't be too worried about that 7 foot ugly stick. I've got one and it's held up like a champ with some pretty big fish in the salt

0 for 14, still trying. No good tides this weekend or I would have suggested he take a shot at it.

Ha, I wasn't even thinking of gators but they are a possibility. I was suggesting the saltwater fish were the surprises.

I tend to tie on light line such as 10 or 12 lb because these fish usually are not that big.

BTW, you might want to consider drowning some dead mullet in the channels, or deep slots off the beach or even off the pier as this is bull red season.

And finally, who decided to schedule a wedding on St. Simons the weekend of the GA/FL game? Actually, it will be real quiet during Saturday afternoon. Saturday night, not so much.

Don't get me started on the scheduling of this.

I appreciate the suggestions. It sounds like I just need to rig up with the ugly stik and mono. Easy enough. Hopefully I can come back with a fishy report - we will see. I am sending my mother out to the lake tonight with some bread to see if she can spook up some fish (I dont go down until later this week).

It was in the high 50s this AM and I got one nice hit - wasn't able to set a hook or entice another strike. I will let it warm up and give it another shot.

I have been throwing a small silver, slow sinking Rapala and its got really nice action. Hopefully and give a better update later!
