Default Trip to Davidson

(a) Stop in at Davidson River Outfitters on corner of 64 and 276 for current intel.
(b) Water will be high - we have had lots of rain.
(c) The Davidson comes in 3 flavors. From confluence with French Broad to USFS boundary is all private water. USFS boundary to campground is hatchery supported. Everything above the campground is wild fish, artificials and C&R only.
(d) Above Coontree Picnic area road forks with Davidson and the hatchery going left, Looking Glass Creek goes right.
(e) Bring your A Game. These fish are frequently chased so be stealthy, use no bigger than 6x and think small flies. To quote Kevin Howell, "2 split can turn a good day of fishing into a great day of fishing." Unless the water is really high and stained, then go with 4x or 5x and big streamers.

If you get frustrated - and the Davidson can be very frustrating - two DH streams are close: East Fork French Broad and North Mills River.

We did about 2ish miles below to the hatchery. Managed 3 bows and lost what looked to be a decent brook trout. Had a good day! Found fresh bear tracks, saw about 95 thousand hikers and mountian bikers but only maybe 5 or 6 fisherman. Great day.
