Remembering the string about GLoomis rods and their committment? for customer service, I thought that I should pass this along.

Yesterday while putting my gear on for the float with the Tailwater Chapter of TU at the hatchery, I had the chance of watching the wind catch my Orvis Rocky Mountain 5WT rod, placing inside my truck door, and then watching the wind proceed to slam my door. My two piece rod was now a four piece rod. Luckily I brought along my 7Wt due to the wind and was able to fish.

Today, I took my rod down to Orvis to send it back for repairs (~3weeks). While talking with Jim, I asked if he had a demo 5Wt so I could keep on fishing this week since I'm on vacation. Jim just simply went to the rod rack and brought out a new Silver Label 5Wt and said, "Here's your new rod". This was not what I was expecting since clearly breaking my rod was my fault.

Orvis vs. GLoomis?, Guess what my choice is.

I broke my orvis one wieght this fall and guess I should have asked for a demo. Dang, it took 5 weeks to get my rod back. Missed it a lot on a trip to VA. When I broke my sage i had a new rod in a week.
would love to hear others' experiences with this kind of thing.

Just think fellas. Ten years ago( I'm guessing, don't hold me to this, you get the point ! ) you wouldn't have gotten them back at all. Count our blessings and sling the Orvis......got my eye on that smallest Clearwater reel Jimmy's got. $28 and my2 wt. outfit will be complete ! Soon I will be ( drum roll...............) OrvisMan !!!

Who'd a thought it. Owl-the Orvis Man. When I think back to some of the stuff you posted in Jan, Feb '99. Oh well, wonders never cease. BTW, what kind of tube are you looking for (length, ect)?

People complain about the high price of Orvis rods but some how I bet that Huntfish has a much sweeter taste in his mouth than the bad taste that would have been left from an inferior "Customer Satisfaction" policy from a cheaper rod maker. Lots of rod companys offer "Lifetime Warrantys" but make sure to read the small print. Face it we all break rods either on a fish a tree or the door of a 1992 Ford Ranger. Its nice to know that a company stands behind their product.
