Eventually, all things merge into one. And a river runs through it.

Go Northwest on Hwy 129 out of Athens towards Jefferson/Gainesville. Pay attention to signs around Gainesville. Turn onto Hwy 53 past Gainesville. Take this all the way to the Amicalola River. www.mapquest.com says it is about 63 miles to Dawsonville with a travel time of 1 hour and 41 minutes. The river is 5.8 miles past Dawsonville.

I haven't had time to fish anywhere but the lower DH so far. I caught about 30 or 40 on Friday afternoon in about 2 1/2 hours. The fish seem to be concentrated around the parking lot still. Sunday morning I walked upriver past the left hand turn in the river and still caught a few.

I haven't fished the upper DH yet but we put alot of fish in that water from the Steele bridge down a couple of hundred yards. Including a couple of 20-24" fish in the deep pool just below the bridge. The fisheries biologist drove a 4 wheel drive truck to a spot midway on the DH and stocked there also.

Another little tidbit of info. If you are coming from the GA 400 direction you can get to the upper DH quicker by taking Sweetwater Juno Road. It is about 1 1/2 miles before The river on Hwy 53. It runs into Steele Bridge Road in a little under 3 miles, from the other direction. The Hwy 53/Amicalola Church Road/Steele Bridge Road/Sweetwater Juno Road loop forms a big circle around the DH water.

Hope this helps.
