I am a Georgia native and love to explore the mountains. I live out of state now and can only manage one trip every couple years with some very good friends. We generally backpack in a short distance (less that 2 miles) and set up camp near a trout stream. Judging from others posts, I'll not ask where to go. Half the fun is finding a place yourself. My question is about camping.
Can you camp anywhere in the WMA's or does it have to be on a designated camp site?

Not a fair statement. Lots of people will give you suggestions- things just got a little heated last week over brookies. What, your "family" never had a good brou-ha-ha?
I'm not a GA boy, so I can't help unless you want my input on the Chatooga or SC streams. Somebody help this guy out- on both topics. Also, if you want specifics, try e-mailing one of us.

The Chattahochee WMA has designated campsites and some of them are pay to use. A word of warning, fished there yesterday, well off the beaten path, and " they ain`t kiddin" when the signs that are posted when you enter warn of bears in the area. Saw a few tracks and a couple piles of bear "doo-doo" near the stream, so be careful, would hate to see anyone end up like the woman who was killed by the bear a few months ago.

Great question Strip. I would really like to hear (learn) something about where to go. I am new to Georgia and would like to do both, camp and fish. I also respect the board members who do not want to divulge secret fishing holes. Thank you to those who do offer "suggestions" and "general" areas.
Alright dumb question time.....what is the WMA and where does it extend to/from.

Hey NiteOwl, is the last area you mentioned ("Chatt. WMA, way up into the hills(free and secluded") the chattooga or chattahoche?

Thanks again!
