Go over to hiwassee.net and ask Tic. He has worn out a few of them and would most likely share what he knows.

Bryan and others interested. We have a little chat room everynight on the Aol chat rooms. The reason we are not using the NGTO room is that some can not get into the chat room. Anyway Tic is usually in there with us so if you send me your Instant messenger name Email, I will put you on my list and invite you into our chat room. Tic can give you some great info and sometimes we get a secret pattern out of him to use on the HI.

I have a 16' Clackacraft. Since it is the only driftboat I've owned, I can't compare it to other brands for you. I like it a lot. I use it on the Hiwassee, which is rough on boats. It is stable, sturdy, and handles well with 3 full-grown (over-grown, some might say) fishermen in it. Let me know if you have other questions.

Betzl,
Where are you going to use this boat the most? i was debating getting one, but Im not sure I would use it enough. Im still leaning towards a driftboat, but the 2 man skeeter pontoons also look nice. Does anyone know if you can run a driftboat down the tocoa? --ALG |

I thought that Chris Scalley had/has a Clacka. I know I saw Justin who worked for him in one a year ago. You might ask Chris.

It is going to be a graduation present. I'd use it everywhere. Most of all I'd like to use it on rivers if I go out west, smallmouth rivers and warmwater stuff here. Most of the trout fishing I do in GA is wading.
I would try to toccoa though. -bryan |

Yes, Chris Scalley and I use Clacka Crafts in our business. We have two 15' low profile models. Although Chris has another larger boat with a jet engine, he also uses the Clacka as does his brother/partner John Scalley. We all like them very much. Very stable, very maneuverable, very durable. Our clients love to fly fish out of them. I use a 55 pound thrust electric motor to cover water quickly. They are rated for 10 hp engines. I called the folks at Clacka in Idaho a while back and they recommended a 5 hp Nissan with an internal tank, because there is not a good location in the boat for a gas tank and a 5hp weighs half as much as a 10 hp which relates to better handling.
I've taken my boat down the Toccoa, but a raft is a much better choice as taking the drift boat in and out is a major undertaking there. One caution about having your own drift boat. Be sure you have friends who like to row, otherwise you end up doing all the rowing while they do all the fishing ![]() |

Yeah, and then when you try to teach 'em how to row, they go all dumb on ya. ![]() |
